French drain

A French drain is a trench covered with gravel or rock containing a pipe with perforated holes that re-directs groundwater away from an area. A French drain is primarily used to re-direct groundwater or surface water away from a building or home.  Its purpose is to prevent the water from penetrating your basement and damaging the foundation of your home.
